There are some things quoted as truth and one of those is that men will never understand women, while women will never understand the relationship a man has with his own penis. The truth of the matter is, however, that the penis is incredibly important to a man. It can be where he gets his sense of masculinity from, if you believe this to be hyperbole than you have never seen a commercial for male enhancement. When something is wrong with a man’s penis there is a sense of being in jeopardy and as science continues its research there does seem to be a relationship between testosterone and impotence.

What is testosterone? In the simplest terms it is a hormone. Hormones can wreck havoc on the body, no matter the gender. The clearest indication of the power of hormones in women can be seen during pregnancy and the wild mood swings that accompany bodily changes.

The hormones of a man, including testosterone, are all under a blanket group of molecules called androgens. Androgens are connected to penile dysfunction. Traditionally, erectile dysfunction or ED, was thought to all be in a man’s head. Indeed for young men especially it usually is a matter of mind over body. As a man ages, things can change.

Factors that decrease with age include muscle mass, bone density, strength, and serum testosterone. Androgen deficiency is intrinsically tied with penile dysfunction. This issue is not something to be dismissed since it can be a risk factor that is associated with heart disease.

When it comes to the penis it is good to know how they work. Erections are not as simple as you might think and involve a number of systems in the body including the neurological, hormonal, vascular, and endocrine. It is the trapping of blood with the vascular rich corpus cavernosum that causes pressure and volume to build in the penis, resulting in an erection.

Within men with erectile problems, there can be a difference in the very construction of the vasculature within the penis.

When testosterone is low in men they can acquire hypogonadism which is the result of the failure of the testes to produce testosterone at normal levels. The symptoms include loss of libido which ties into a basic issue with penile erection and problems having an orgasm.

Decreased libido can include more than just not feeling like having sex and can have the man unable to achieve an orgasm along with an intense depression. Men and their penises are intimately connected, no pun intended. Low serum testosterone is linked to metabolic syndrome, which is seen in men that are clinically obese.

Case studies were the first to shine a light on men who were obese and how that affects a variety of systems, including the penis. Also, men with type II diabetes also battled impotency. Not having an erection can relate to real world conditions.

Impotence is not just an inconvenience and can be a symptom of larger issues, or a precursor for other diseases like cardiovascular issues. Being overweight can snowball past hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetic risk, and shows itself through a number of symptoms including impotence. While every man experiences issues with maintaining an erection now and again, if it is consistent, there is a responsible to be seen by a doctor. Clearly there is a relationship between testosterone and impotence.

Two recent studies have found the positive impact walnuts have on reducing prostate and breast cancer cell growth.

Two recent studies have found the positive impact walnuts have on reducing prostate and breast cancer cell growth.

The first study, conducted by Dr. Paul Davis, of the University of California, found in addition to inhibiting prostate cancer development, the mice had lower levels of a protein, IGF (insulin-like growth factor) that is strongly linked to prostate cancer.

Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acid rich walnuts, antioxidants, and other plant chemicals have the ability to suppress gene activity within the prostate cancer cells.

These findings show the additional benefits of walnuts, already known to be good for the heart and brain.

Mice genetically programmed to get prostate cancer were fed for 4.5 months (18 weeks) either a diet equivalent to a human consuming 2.4 ounces of walnuts per day, or one with an equal amount of fat from other sources.

“This study shows that when mice with prostate tumors consume an amount of walnuts that could easily be eaten by a man, tumor growth is controlled,” Davis said in a statement. “This leaves me very hopeful that it could be beneficial in patients.”

Another study reported in 2009 similarly found that walnut consumption may also provide the essential omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and plant sterols.

According to Elaine Hardman, Ph.D., associate professor of medicine at Marshall University School of Medicine, who conducted a study with laboratory animals rather than humans. She believes people should heed the recommendation to eat more walnuts. Dr. Hardman’s research found walnut consumption may provide the body with essential omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytosterols that reduce the risk of breast cancer. Her findings were presented at the American Association for Cancer Research 100th Annual Meeting 2009.

“Walnuts are better than cookies, french fries or potato chips when you need a snack,” said Hardman. “We know that a healthy diet overall prevents all manner of chronic diseases.”

Hardman and fellow researchers evaluated mice fed a diet equal to daily consumption of 2 ounces of walnut. Another group of mice were fed a different diet.

The mice that ate walnuts had significantly decreased breast tumor incidence, the number of glands with a tumor and tumor size.

“These laboratory mice typically have 100 percent tumor incidence at five months; walnut consumption delayed those tumors by at least three weeks,” said Hardman.

Chemical analysis showed that increased consumption of omega-3 fatty acids contributed to the drop fouin tumor incidence, but other parts of the walnut contributed as well.

“With dietary interventions you see multiple mechanisms when working with the whole food,” said Hardman. “It is clear that walnuts contribute to a healthy diet that can reduce breast cancer.

If you are someone who has or is battling cancer, you know that it always feels like an uphill struggle. It takes a very considerable toll on the host mentally and physically. No one is pretending that all the success stories we hear make up the bulk of those with cancer. It is well understood that the stories of triumph are the objects of hope in dark times of those too wishing they could be cancer survivors.

But cancer survivors do not get to be this way overnight, and that’s what usually makes each of their stories so unique and incredible. Many times it consists of very painful treatment that leaves them weak and in terrible discomfort, and also usually is accompanied by a degrading look as well (such as a loss of hair). So the road is long and hard, but it helps to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Doctors wish they could tell everyone that they have to diagnose with cancer that they have a formula to beating it. Many have been encouraged with the breakthroughs concerning the disease in modern science, that they are close to a cure. If you happen to be a fortunate one who was cured with the current methods, you might find it difficult to be a beacon of hope for so many traveling down this road. It is certain you no longer feel the same about who you are as you did before you were diagnosed.

So, lets suppose for a moment that you just found out you were cancer free. You are elated and feeling blessed. Your fingers are trembling with the excitement as you dial all the numbers you remember. You call everyone you know to tell them the great news.

You might also feel a bit overwhelmed to what you want to do from here. You might feel a great tug to provide awareness to those who don’t understand the condition and who can help the cause. You might want to get well and strong enough to return to work somewhere. Whatever it is that you decide to do, there is help available for you.

There are many programs that are available specifically for cancer survivors. Rehabilitation, job placement, and support groups are among some of the most common. In many cases it is hard to look at a new lease on life optimistically when you didn’t plan on making it out through the light at the end of the tunnel.

Groups such as the Lance Armstrong Foundation, have prided themselves on providing quality care and a network of resources for people in all stages of their walk with cancer. Through their fundraising efforts, many people have found means to pursue fulfilling lives from the ashes of their struggle.

If you are, or know someone who is a cancer survivor, consider it a blessing. This is an awakening of many different manners that not everyone will get to experience. You have been through the worst to stand on top of the mountain, and you should take this second chance to live like you always meant to.

Cancer is tough. We all know it can take a lot out of you. cancer survivors deserve help.
